It’s been a while since I’ve shared my skincare routine with you, and now that the weather has changed, so have my daily products. In the Summer, it’ hot and I don’t need quite as much hydration. But, now that it’s freezing—literally—my skin has been so dry, chapped and more sensitive than normal.

Finding a skincare routine that works for both anti-aging purposes (I’m now 32) and keeping breakouts to a minimum is tricky. Most anti-aging products are super hydrating and sometimes that can weigh down oily skin, but I’ve found a routine that I’m really loving. My skin has been feeling so much smoother, plumper and fine lines are diminishing—WAHOO!!!

What works for my skin, might not work for yours, but I think it’s always worth a shot! The upside is that if you’re not happy with the products, you can always return them.

I got some requests for non-Beautycounter options, and admittedly, I pretty much exclusively use Beautycounter. Yes, because I work as a consultant for them, but also because they’ve worked the best for my skin without being outrageously expensive (I really do love Tata Harper too, but dang, it ain’t cheap!). I did try to include some similar products in here from other brands that I’ve tried over the years though, so I hope that’s helpful!

Anti-Aging & Acne-Prone Skincare Routine

Morning

Cleanser

Every morning I use the Countercontrol Pore Cleanser. It’s designed for oily skin, and my skin is on the oily side and it’s been a huge help in keeping my skin clear. It’s not too harsh or drying either.

Toner

I either use the Charcoal Balancing Mist or the Countertime Mineral Boost Essence. If my skin is feeling more oily, I go for the mist and if it feels pretty balanced or dry, I go for the essence! If you want something really simple, try witch hazel!

Moisturizer

Lately, I’ve moved away from using a facial oil in the morning. Sometimes I think that too much oil for me causes clogged pores, so I’m trying out not using it quite as much. So far, so good! Instead, I’ve been using the Countermatch Adaptive Moisturizer. It’s really lightweight, absorbs quickly and is really great for so many different skin types.

SPF

I ran out of my favorite Supergoop Mineral SPF a few months ago and haven’t replaced it yet. So, lately, I’ve been using this Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer (I wear shade 3) as my SPF. It actually works out pretty well because it gives me more hydration, the obvious SPF, and a little more coverage.

If you have oily skin, do note that I actually don’t like the Dew Skin on it’s own, it makes me look too oily, but when I put foundation (I wear Sand) over it, then it works perfectly!

Nightime

Remove Makeup

Every night, I use these cleansing wipes to remove my makeup. I love that they’re biodegradable and do a great job of getting my makeup off.

Cleanser

I alternate between Beautycounter’s Rejuvenating Face Cleanser & Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash. The cleansing oil is a bit more time intensive as you’re suppose to put a warm cloth on and let it cool completely, but it does feel like a nice spa treatment, so when I have time, I love doing it!

Toner

I wasn’t quite sure about this stuff at first, but now I’m hooked on the Countertime Essence! I’m still working through my sample bottle, but will definitely be buying the big one. It’s another dose (albeit smaller) of clean retinol and also helps to really hydrate your skin. Most toners are drying, but this one is not!

Serums

I alternate between the Countertime Radiance Serum and the Overnight Peel. I love the serum for it’s anti-aging benefits, and the peel for keeping pores clean. Alternating between the two has been a great combination for me! Just don’t use them both on the same night, it’ll be too strong.

By the way, I should mention that if you join Band of Beauty this month, the FREE gift is the Overnight Peel (worth $69). BoB is the rewards program and is a no-brainer in my opinion. You get 10% product credit back, free shipping on orders over $100 and that free gift when you join and spend at least $50. Such a great deal!!!

Moisturizer

The past few weeks I’ve been using the Countertime Supreme Cream. The first time I used this was in the summer and it just felt too heavy for my skin. But, after I went to my last facial the aesthetician told me my skin, especially on my forehead was REALLY dry.

Eye Cream

I’m in love with this eye cream. It’s also part of the Countertime line which means it’s got that clean retinol in it and it works SO well!! Right now, I only use it at night, but I should probably start using it in the morning too.

Spot Treatment

Typically, I just dab a little tea tree oil—I get mine from Young Living—on any blemishes and that helps clear them more quickly. I also like this spot treatment, but ran out and haven’t replaced it yet.

That wraps up my current skincare routine! I hope this is helpful for any of you with similar skin types, or anyone looking for great, safe anti-aging products. If you order Beautycounter, don’t forget to put my name, ‘Danielle Wraith’ as your consultant.

If you haven’t tried a charcoal mask you, what are you waiting for?! I feel like this is THE mask to get you into masking on a weekly basis. Charcoal face masks are great because they well help clear up your skin! I’ve tried several and wanted to share my reviews on some of my favorites.

If you have DRY skin, I honestly wouldn’t recommend a charcoal mask. I would instead, recommend a restorative mask that helps in hydration. This is a great one from Origins and maybe adding in one of these hydrating oils. The only time I’d recommend this if you have dry skin is to help remove dead skin since it’s exfoliating and then follow up with a SUPER intense hydrating moisturizer and oil.

Charcoal masks are more ideal for those of you with oily and congested skin. That is me, to a T. As in, my T zone is a BOLD T of oil. You feel me? Even if you’re super oily, I wouldn’t mask more than once a week. It can throw the balance of your natural oils off and cause more problems than excess oil. Do a weekly mask, with one mask only, and call it a day (or night). Okay, let’s get started.

MY HONESY BEAUTYCOUNTER CHARCOAL MASK REVIEW

What’s The Benefit Of Charcoal For Your Skin?

I think first and foremost we should chat about charcoal itself. It’s definitely a popular ingredient that we’re seeing more and more. And no, this isn’t the charcoal you use to cook with! It’s activated charcoal, like the kind that you may drink in a charcoal lemonade, or an activated charcoal pill .Here’s why it’s so popular.

Draws Out Dirt & Toxins

Activated charcoal attracts to dirt and oils and toxins. Therefore making it an ideal ingredient in skin care to help remove all of that gunk from your skin and help to unclog pores. Also great to pull out toxins from your body after a night of drinking in pill form, but maybe that’s for another post.

TIP: To make it easier for your masks to pull out dirt and blackheads, you want to always cleanse your face before a mask. If you put a mask on skin that hasn’t been cleaned and pores haven’t been warmed up, ain’t nothing gonna come out! Do a 2 minute cleanse to get things moving, dry your face, then put on a mask. You’ll see MUCH better results this way.

THIS IS THE CHARCOAL MASK I SWEAR BY

BEAUTYCOUNTER NO. 3 BALANCING FACIAL MASK

I love this mask because when you do it and it starts to dry, you see the oil pull out of your pores. I love a good visual, you feel me? Like those Biore pore strips? Man I wish I had more blackheads when I do them. This mask helps to draw out oil from your pores that you can SEE and it’s GROSS. The salicylic acid in the mask also helps to exfoliate which is ideal for oily and congested skin. (Insert raising hand emoji!)

My Take // I personally love this mask the best out of the ones in today’s post. I found it TRULY pulled out my blackheads the most.

My closet update with simplified storage solutions is finally here to share! I’ve always been anxious with clutter, I organize for fun. No, seriously. I’m that friend who comes over to help you clean, because I like it. I’ll organize your pantry if I’m bored and I’ll probably organize your medicine cabinet when I go pee. So it’s probably no surprise that I love an organized closet. I like to say, “everything has a home” and my updated closet gives everything it’s own home! I’m so excited to share this with you all because you said you wanted to see more organization tips!

Let’s break it down… Over the last several years I’ve made a conscience effort to keep a minimal closet. Keeping true to a capsule wardrobe for most seasons and enjoying a minimalistic approach to my wardrobe. Now that I’ve started my career in the medical field and I wear more business attire than I ever have, it’s been a bit of a shift with my wardrobe. I’m still building my workwear capsule (more on that in an upcoming post) and I want to keep my minimalistic approach while keeping an organized closet.

So I had to purge through my closet to make room (and have some extra cash) for my business attire! The problem with my closet (that I don’t share, its in a separate bedroom!) Is that it didn’t have much storage space as far as shelves go. I really wanted to use as much space as possible in my closet and not have to utilize other space in our home.

Before & After

BEFORE WITH LIMITED SHELFS

I had a tidy closet, but wasn’t able to utilize the full space of the closet. I was also having to use a 6 drawer dresser to home most of my clothing.

So, I had my husband add additional storage shelves! We headed to Lowes and bout 3 shelves and heavy duty L brackets. We used anchors to attach the shelves and after about 1.5 hours we had this!

AFTER WITH ADDED SHELFS

I was so happy to add additional storage for shoes, hats and overhead baskets for off season items!

I’m thrilled with how My closet update came out! I’d love to help you simplify and organize your closet!

CONTAINER STORE CLOSET ITEMS Master Closet

  • Canvas Storage Bins – I used these for my tees and my sweaters and scarves. It’s ideal to have a fabric or plastic bin for clothing so you aren’t worried about pulls from wooden or rattan baskets.
  • Nordic Baskets – These are great for holding bags or clothing too
  • Hangers – I like these non-slip ones to make sure tanks and delicate pieces stay in place.

Not only did I get more shelf space, but I also switched out all my mismatched bins and containers for a streamlined look. This makes things not only function better but feels more clean and polished. There’s truly a place for everything. It’s as simple as that!
