DIY Homemade Playdough

DIY PLAYDOUGH! The perfect rainy day activity! We needed a fun, indoor, play day so I whipped up some homemade playdough for H. And, I’m sharing some fun family activities (for all ages) and our go-to, easy-peasy recipe below.

Playdough is one of the cheapest, easiest & dare I say, most satisfying tools to use for learning. If you have kiddos home for school whip up a batch (invite them to help!) in a variety of colors & use them to make counting items or for shaping letters. Our wipe-clean cards (we have 3 sets: alphabet, first words & numbers— each available through the bookshop links below!) and can be great for guiding shapes & connecting symbols to quantities.

Sharing my go-to, easy-peasy recipe below!
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salt
4 tsp cream of tartar
2 cups water
2 tbs of vegetable oil
Add food coloring if desired

Combine all ingredients and stir over low heat until a sticky dough forms and it starts pulling away from the edges of the pot. Let cool and gently knead. You can then mix in food coloring in by placing dough in a plastic bag and kneading through and essential oils for added fun!

Store in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Ta-Da!
